As you may know, I’m a big fan of British pubs and I’m always looking for the next one to try. Living close to Bermondsey, I was surprised to discover a new one: The Marquis of Wellington.
Sitting centre-stage on the famous Bermondsey Beer Mile, the pub is back from a two-year hiatus with an urban-cool new look, pizzas cooked to perfection and an incredible collection of beers.
I was there on a Wednesday night which means… quiz night! All people seemed to have a lot of fun, they were chatting and laughing out loud (that’s what it makes pubs so cool, isn’t it?).
My friend and I ordered two pizzas. The waiting was a bit long but I didn’t want to complain. I could see some pizzas serving to other tables – but they arrived after us. That was very funny actually because the manager came to see us and he was a bit embarrassed. He told us that he has eaten our pizzas with his colleague. He thought it was for him but realized that we ordered the same pizzas and were still waiting for it.
But that was fine to wait – the food is so delicious. I haven’t eaten such a good pizza in London and was not thinking that I could get it in a pub. If you fancy some homemade garlic breads and pizzas, go to The Marquis of Wellington. It’s a foodie heaven.
Each week, new traders (such as Smokin’ Lotus, The Chip Club, BearBQ and Harley Dogs) are popping up next to The Marquis of Wellington, serving up the very best of British street food to hungry Bermondsey locals (and others). Not sure what to choose? Set at the heart of London’s street food scene with the infamous Druid Street and Maltby Street weekend markets, the Marquis of Wellington and its neighbours offer the perfect places to pick up any street food favourite.
